📢 A NOTE FROM ME:
Starting tomorrow, we’re doing something new on this page.
Over the next ten days, I’m going to run a series I’m calling ‘Lessons From History.’ Each day, one story — one real place, one real time — where the world ran the experiment and we can read the results for ourselves. I’m not going to ask you to take my word for anything. I’m going to tell you what happened, where it happened, and what it cost.
Here’s why. There’s a word getting thrown around a lot these days — socialism — and most of the people throwing it around have never lived under it. They think it means kindness. They think it means sharing. They think it’s about making things fair.
History disagrees. And history doesn’t argue — it just shows you the receipts.
So for the next ten days, we’re going to look at the receipts together. We’ll start in 1620 with the Pilgrims, who tried communal ownership with the best of intentions and nearly starved. Then we’ll go to the Soviet Union, Mao’s China, Cambodia, the two Germanys, the two Koreas, Cuba, and Venezuela — places where the experiment was tried at full scale, on millions of people, with nowhere to hide from the results. And at the end, we’ll talk about what it all means for us — for the people who still get to choose.
I’m going to give you the short version up top and then the whole story underneath, for those who want to go deeper. One lesson a day, for ten days. Read them, share them, and if you’ve got kids or grandkids, sit them down and read along with them. This is the stuff they don’t teach anymore.
It starts tomorrow. I hope you’ll be here.
