π’ Shallotte has named its next town manager.
The Board of Aldermen voted unanimously at its Oct. 6 meeting to hire Robert Waring β the town’s current assistant town manager and planning director β to succeed Mimi Gaither when she retires at year’s end. Waring was chosen from roughly 25 applicants.
Waring brings nearly 19 years of local government experience: nine years with Shallotte, nine with Leland before that, plus bachelor’s and master’s degrees in public administration from UNC Wilmington. He’s also an Army veteran β 3Β½ years in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg.
Gaither has been town manager since 2018 (and with the town since 1998). Her retirement is effective Dec. 31, with her last day Dec. 15; Waring takes over Dec. 16. The town attorney is drafting his contract for the board’s approval.
