⚠️ Heads up if you shop at Trader Joe’s in Myrtle Beach — a new lawsuit is raising a food-safety flag worth knowing about.
Two women are suing Trader Joe’s, alleging chicken wraps from the store made them seriously ill with E. coli. One of them bought and ate a wrap from the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina location on Aug. 27 and says she was hospitalized twice, on Aug. 30 and again on Sept. 2, with severe abdominal cramps and bloody diarrhea. The second woman bought a wrap at a Massachusetts location.
Important context — this is a lawsuit’s allegation, not a proven finding:
🔬 Both women were diagnosed with Shiga toxin-producing E. coli, a type that can sometimes cause kidney damage.
🔍 The FDA’s outbreak investigation (outbreak #1421) was still listed as active as of Oct. 22, with a 50-person case count, and describes the suspected product as a “multi-ingredient wrap with chicken.”
🛒 If you ate a chicken wrap from Trader Joe’s back in August and had severe stomach symptoms, that’s worth a call to your doctor — and reporting it helps investigators connect the dots.
We’ll keep watching for any recall or FDA update and pass it along if one comes. In the meantime, share this with the Trader Joe’s shoppers in your life.
