Amazon Cuts Ribbon on Massive Robotics Fulfillment Center Near Wilmington

Amazon officially cut the ribbon today (Oct. 5) on its massive new robotics fulfillment center at Pender Commerce Park — one of only four Generation 12.1 robotics sites in the entire country.

The 3.5-million-square-foot facility spans 4.5 floors and straddles the New Hanover–Pender county line on U.S. 421, with capacity for 20 to 24 million units serving the Wilmington and Myrtle Beach regions.

The center is already employing more than 1,100 full-time workers, with hundreds of additional seasonal hires expected as the holiday rush approaches — a major jobs boost for the Cape Fear region.

The facility represents Amazon’s latest-generation robotics technology, where people and machines work side by side to move goods faster than ever.
