The Holden Beach Fishing Pier is coming down. The town board voted unanimously on October 27 to demolish the pier, which has been closed since 2022 and was condemned on October 12.
A $7.3 million bond to rebuild it failed last November, but the town is pursuing demolition and replacement permits together — and a pledge drive has already raised about $516,000 toward a new pier.
It’s the end of a landmark a lot of us grew up fishing from. We’ll keep following what comes next.
