π« North Myrtle Beach’s planning commission said no to Amazon’s drone launch pad last night. At Tuesday’s 5 PM meeting, a commissioner moved to adopt the staff report’s findings of fact and deny minor PDD amendment Z-26-22 β the proposal for a 13,627-square-foot fenced paddock with six launch pads behind Amazon’s warehouse on Water Tower Road. The motion was seconded, and the chair called for ayes and announced “the ayes have it.” What that means: the commission β not city council β decides this one, and it denied the pad. No postponement date was set. A few things to keep straight: β’ The vote was by voice β no numeric count was stated on the video, so we aren’t reporting one. Formal minutes haven’t posted yet. β’ Even an approval wouldn’t have meant drones in the sky tomorrow β the FAA separately governs flights. β’ Resident feedback at the Oct. 7 workshop was described as almost overwhelmingly negative.
