💰 Check your bank account — if you’re on Original Medicare, you may have gotten $90 you didn’t expect.
It’s a one-time Medicare premium rebate from the Medicare Improvement Fund, announced October 2. About 20.8 million Original Medicare Part B enrollees are getting it — most as a direct deposit around October 8, with paper checks going out later this month.
It shows up as a Social Security deposit, but it’s NOT a benefit increase and NOT a cost-of-living adjustment. Social Security just handles the payment because that’s how your Part B premium gets deducted. It’s meant to offset this year’s Part B premium jump to $202.90 a month — the $90 covers about 44% of one month’s premium.
Who didn’t get one: Medicare Advantage enrollees (about 35 million people), anyone getting Medicaid help with their Part B premium, and higher-income folks paying IRMAA surcharges.
No application needed — if you’re eligible and didn’t get a direct deposit, a check is coming to the address Medicare has on file. Questions: 1-800-MEDICARE.
