Shallotte names Robert Waring as next town manager

📣 Shallotte has picked its next town manager.

The Board of Aldermen voted in closed session Oct. 6 to hire Robert Waring — the town’s current assistant town manager and planning director. Mayor Art Dornfeld says the decision was unanimous, and Waring was selected from roughly 25 applicants.

Waring has nearly 19 years of local government experience: nine with Shallotte, nine with the town of Leland before that. He holds a bachelor’s and a master’s in public administration from UNC Wilmington, and he’s a veteran — 3.5 years in the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg.

He takes over Dec. 16 as Mimi Gaither retires. Gaither has been town manager since 2018 and worked for the town since 1998; her last day is Dec. 15.

Waring told the Beacon he’s committed to keeping the town ‘responsive, transparent and professional.’ The town attorney is drafting his contract for the board’s approval.
