City Rule vs. State Law: Two North Myrtle Beach Home Bakers Caught in the Middle

🍪 City rule vs. state law — and two North Myrtle Beach bakers are caught in the middle.

WMBF reports two North Myrtle Beach home businesses — a cookie maker in Cherry Grove and a sourdough baker — had to shut down their roadside stands under a city rule. Here’s the wrinkle: South Carolina’s cottage food law actually allows them to sell their products directly to customers.

The city says staff is still working on a proposed ordinance that would allow more mobile food vendors in approved areas — but there’s no decision and no timeline yet.

The cookie baker is still selling at local shops, online, at area events, and pop-ups around town.

Common-sense fix, or rules are rules?
