James Moore β born 1737 in New Hanover County; died 1777 in Wilmington. πΊπΈHe was in overall command of the Moore’s Creek campaign β the victory that made Congress promote him brigadier general. Given the Southern Department, he marched his brigade to Charleston, then was ordered north to join Washington. He never made it. Illness struck him down before he could march. NCpedia says “death robbed North Carolina of its most obvious choice for high command in the Continental Army.” He gave his life before he ever got his great command.#America250 #HeroesOfOurCoast #RevolutionaryWar #WilmingtonNC #NCHistory #CarolinaAfterDeadline
