February 27, 1776 — near Currie. 🇺🇸
The most famous battle you’ve never heard of — fought 20 miles from our beaches.
1,600 Loyalists, many Scottish Highlanders with broadswords, marched on Wilmington to crush the rebellion. At dawn, they charged across a narrow bridge at Moore’s Creek.
The Patriots had removed the planks and greased the rails. A thousand militiamen waited in the mist with muskets and cannons.
The charge collapsed in minutes. 850 Loyalists captured. British plans for the South wrecked.
Weeks later, North Carolina became the FIRST colony to vote for independence — the Halifax Resolves.
It started at that bridge.
